Misled

You keep looking for redemption
From someone
Who keeps you in place
Still you think you’re in ascension
And your fate
Can’t be tied to race

Maybe so in the world which you live in
But for most
It’s just a given

Seems some people think you’ve done well
When you trash us
On cable TV
All I see is just a sell out
Who’s consumed
By his own greed
I’m concerned by statements you make
Not for you
But what lies in their wake

In your bed
Can you see all the harm you’ve spread
So misled
You’ve no knowledge of what you said

Sounds like someone took the bass out of your voice
And used no grease
Like a city dog you take out
You seem tamed and eager to please

Now you sit
In your ivory tower
Looking down with your limited power

In your head
All you see is the cash you’ll get
So misled
Can you live with the life you’ve led

Now you sit
In your ivory tower
Looking down with your limited power

In your bed
Can you see all the harm you spread
So misled
You’ve no knowledge of what you said

In your head
All you see is the cash you’ll get
So misled
Can you live with the lies you’ve spread

So misled
In your head
In your bed
You’ve no knowledge of what you said...

Soprano Sax: Keith Fiddmont

Inspired by those black men who feel they have had to apologize to the rest of the world for who we are and are rewarded the deeper they try to go in the process.  Here’s an example: Armstrong Williams getting paid by the Bush administration to go on shows like America’s Black Forum (where he was a paid panelist) and shill (push their agenda).

Musical influence: Oliver Nelson (chord clusters in chorus), Morgana King (phrasing)
