Have a laugh

I had a dream about you last night
By chance we met in a late night diner
With your hot tea, toast and scrambled eggs
You couldn’t have looked finer
To me
It was nice seeing you once again
But the lingering thoughts remained for me
Should I open up?
Should I risk potential pain?

Yet it felt so good to see you again
To sit and stay awhile
Catchin’ up on old times
And admiring your smile
And I thought
Share a laugh
I said, “Have a laugh
Have a laugh”

Your old boyfriend was not too far from us
I’d been out with him and his new wife
He saw you from a distance and smiled
Then he waved and said goodnight

He had an early recording session the next day
And I knew I too soon had to leave
So many unanswered questions
Then I thought, “well there is no need
No need”

I awoke and questioned what this all meant
I’d put the past behind
With no anger and nothing to vent
Yet I know its all
Still in my mind

If I ever chance to see you again
I hope we’ll share a laugh
Have a good laugh

One day far away from now
This may all mean nothing
Then again it may
So the lesson
I take from this
Is find your happiness wherever you may
And one day you’ll
Have a laugh
Have a laugh

With an old friend
Share a laugh
Have a laugh

Sometimes in dreams, things that haven’t resolved the way we hoped they would on the physical plane, resolve themselves in the ethereal plane.
