Blood
Eleventh hour intervention
Goes unheard
So the prisoner in detention
Gets the word
There will be no stopping
What takes place
The final ending
Begins at eight
Say your last goodbyes
Have your final meal
Outside a victim’s family
Tries to heal
Oh but first they want blood
Vengeance for their dead
They want blood
And who am I to say?
But have they got the wrong man?
I wonder
Down in Texas
How the wheel of justice turns
Seems kind of reckless
How it rolls and burns
Is it a violent place
Is it like LA
Haunted with restless souls
‘Cause in the news it stays
They fry a lot of people there
And don’t wanna hear appeals
They say, “there ain’t been no mistake”
But tell me, what’s the rush to deal?
As they’re calling for blood
Vengeance for their dead
They want blood
And who am I to say?
But have they got the wrong man?
Have they got the wrong man?
The defense has new testimony
They say the government concealed
But they’re settin’ up an execution
The parole board
Will not yield
As they’re crying for blood
Vengeance for their dead
They want blood
And who am I to say?
They want his head
His debt repaid in red
They want blood
And who am I to say?
But have they got the wrong man?
Have they got the wrong man?

Inspired by the time when GWB was
governor of Texas and they executed more people than any other state in the
union. I understand why family members and victims could want to see those that
perpetrate crimes have the ultimate payback. We also know that there have been
more than one or two people that have had their sentences reversed because of
DNA evidence not matching.
